Traffic backed up for miles after major accident blocks 6 lanes.
On September 9, 2012 at around 9:39 AM, Cherokee Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to an armed robbery at the Marathon Station located on Bells Ferry Road at Victoria Road in Woodstock. The description of the suspect and his vehicle matched the information related to an armed robbery that happened earlier in Cobb County. At around 10:15 AM, Cherokee 911 advised that 2 Woodstock Police Officers were behind the suspect traveling South on I-575 entering Cobb County. The officers attempted a traffic stop on the suspect, though the suspect refused to stop and fled onto I-575 Southbound. Officers chased the suspect onto I-75 Southbound where Cobb County Police Officials performed a PIT maneuver. They were able to stop the suspect's vehicle near exit 263. The suspect pointed a firearm at the officers. Officers then shot and killed the suspect. The accident caused 6 lanes to be blocked Southbound I-75 South of North Marietta Parkway in Cobb County. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
